Today I am joining in with bloggers all over the country to launch a new campaign trying to raise enough money for 50,000 pairs of new shoes in 50 days. Soles4Souls is an international charity dedicated to providing free footwear to those in desperate need. The website for this fundraising campaign is www.50000shoes.com. The Soles4Souls challenge begins today and ends on Wednesday, December 31, 2008.
Donating is easy and takes just a click and a couple of minutes. The monetary donation is small. $5.00 will buy two pairs of new shoes. Shoes not only bring hope, but in millions of cases they can save lives. It is estimated that Americans have 1.5 billion pairs of unworn shoes lying in their closets while over 300 million children around the world have never owned a pair of shoes.
This brings a special since of conviction to my soul seeing how I, like many of my friends are contributing to the 1.5 billion unworn or rarely worn shoes, I am kind of a shoe junky, I will be donating tonight.
